Every project is unique, but we aim to bring order to the creative process by progressing through the same steps from the start to finish with every client. Below is a general overview of the steps that are a part of any design process with Studio Nauleau.
In-Person Consultation
The process always begins with an in-depth conversation with Daphne, ideally at your home. This is an opportunity for her to hear what your goals, dreams and vision for your home are and it is a chance for you to ask any questions and get to know her. It is also key for understanding the full scope of the project and will serve as the basis from which a proposal for collaboration can be prepared.
Architectural Floorplan & Elevation Development
It’s important to get the lay of the land very early–we partner with architects, contractors, engineers and draftspeople to assist with the creation of new plans or redline any existing ones. Our goals are to determine the best size and placement of furniture and cabinetry, establish the layout for electrical, plumbing, appliances and structural features such as windows, doors and stairs and get an understanding of where new finishes such as tiles, stone and wallpaper will be applied.
Design Development & Research
We work closely with you in a series of meetings and presentations to bring your vision to life. Using inspiration images, mood boards and physical samples during this often quite collaborative phase, we will guide you through the process of deciding on the many elements that will go into each space. In this phase we often create detailed artistic renderings of the spaces to express very closely what the space will ultimately look like.
Procurement & Project Management
We organize your furniture, finish and equipment into a room-by-room schedule—the design team will then use the schedule as a landing page to continuously gather and update product information and as a tool to share relevant specifications with contractors and sub-contractors. Once items are approved, we will take care of the order processing. This phase is also marked by working very closely with all the various trades involved in the project to make sure everything is running smoothly.
Installation
We oversee the installation of every item in your home, from the largest sectional sofa to something as small as a napkin ring, from one-of-a-kind items that are custom tailored to fit in your home to off-the-shelf beauties. We make sure that items arrive as expected (deal with it if they do not!) and land in their new home seamlessly. Depending on the clients’ preferences, this may occur as things are ready or this may occur during a shorter single install period, taking place during one or over several consecutive days. In this case we will work with a local company that specializes in inspecting, storing and delivering furniture and decor to receive the items on our behalf.
